Chaparral Theater

A stage for spectacular shows at Disneyland Paris: a magnificent backdrop and a fantastic atmosphere – a must-see for all fans of Disney shows.

Note: the Chaparral Theater doesn't exist anymore.

The Chaparral Theatre is a stage in Frontierland where shows are performed regularly. Among the best-known shows are certainly ‘Mickey's Winter Wonderland’ and ‘Tarzan – the Encounter’.
During Frozen Summer Fun and the Christmas season, the Frozen Sing-along with Anna, Elsa, Olaf, and Kristoff is performed on this stage, sure to delight fans of the film Frozen.
In addition, the Chaparral Theatre is now showing a new side show called The Forest of Enchantment: a Disney musical adventure.
Which shows you can see, depending on the dates of your stay.

Most shows at the Chaparral Theatre are performed in a colourful mix of English and French. But even if you don't speak either of these languages, you'll have no trouble understanding the stories.
Children will also have fun here, as they are directly involved in almost all performances.

The theatre is located at the back of Frontierland, also known as ‘Cottonwood Creek Ranch’. The theatre fits perfectly with the ranch's rustic style. From the outside, the building looks a bit like a huge barn, and inside, guests are not greeted by a pompous theatre hall with red carpet and plush armchairs, but rather a rustic atmosphere. You can take a seat on one of the wooden benches.

Also noteworthy is the Chaparral Theatre stage, the back of which depicts a rocky hill covered with real plants. This is possible because the theatre is not a closed building, but rather a covered stage and auditorium that provides the plants with enough light to grow. All shows performed here must be integrated into this setting, which works particularly well in the case of ‘Tarzan’.

Unfortunately, the days of the Chaparral Theatre are now over. It closed permanently in 2018 and was then demolished to make way for the new Frontierland Theatre.

The History of the Chaparral Theatre

Anna, Elsa, Olaf and crew at the Frozen Sing-along

When Disneyland Park opened in 1992, the Chaparral Theatre had not yet been built. The stage was not opened until 1995.
At that time, it was still an open-air theatre. Neither the stage nor the auditorium was covered, which was a definite disadvantage given the weather conditions in Paris.

However, this disadvantage was soon remedied. In the summer of 1997, the auditorium of the Chaparral Theatre was given a roof, and in 1998, the stage was also covered, so that from then on, both actors and audience members could enjoy the performances in the dry.

Previous shows at the Chaparral Theatre

  • Hill Billy Hoedown’ was the first show on stage at Disneyland. It was a small Western show with singing and dancing.
  • Pocahontas le Spectacle’ was the first major show to be performed on this stage. As the title suggests, it was based on the film ‘Pocahontas’. At that time, there was a real waterfall on stage and lots of nature.
The last performance of this show took place on 29 August 1999.
  • Mickey's Winter Wonderland’ was a popular show that ran during the Christmas season from 1997 to 2012. Against a winter backdrop, Mickey, Minnie and several other popular Disney characters performed, some even on ice skates. Classic winter and Christmas songs such as ‘Let it Snow’ and ‘Walking in a Winter Wonderland’ accompanied the characters during their performance.
  • Tarzan: The Encounter’ premiered on 1 April 2000 at the Chaparral Theatre. Acrobatic interludes were among the highlights of this show, which was, of course, inspired by the classic Disney film ‘Tarzan’. This extremely popular show ran until the end of the 2012 summer season (with a temporary interruption).
  • Goofy's Summer Camp’ was a small show centred around Mickey's buddy Goofy, but it only ran in the summer of 2009.
  • Frozen Summer Fun’ has been running on the Frontierland stage since the 2015 summer season. This production is inspired by the film ‘Frozen’. Audiences are invited to sing along with Anna, Elsa & Co. to the hits ‘Do you want to build a snowman’, ‘Love is an open door’ and, of course, ‘Let it go’.
  • ‘The Forest of Enchantment’ premiered in February 2016 and takes you on a journey through some of the most popular Disney films.
