The Molly Brown at Thunder Mesa Riverboat Landing

Thunder Mesa Riverboat Landing

Weigh anchor, cast off and ship ahoy! Enjoy a romantic trip on the steamboat around Big Thunder Mountain.

If you've ever dreamt of embarking on a journey aboard a traditional paddle steamer, your dream is about to come true! Welcome to a unique experience that will take you on a scenic adventure like no other.

The Molly Brown paddle steamer invites you on a journey on the Rivers of the Far West, around Big Thunder Mountain. The steamer and the Mark Twain, which also used to sail here, are replicas of original paddle steamers and are beautifully designed with great attention to detail. The Molly Brown, currently the only one in service, is a unique blend of elegance and history. It looks particularly majestic at dusk, when it seems to glide across the Rivers of the Far West. But even when it is moored at the jetty in the evening, beautifully illuminated, it provides an impressive backdrop that also makes for an atmospheric photo opportunity.

Throughout the trip, you will hear music that matches the atmosphere and enhances the scenery.

As you glide along the picturesque rivers, you'll be treated to breathtaking views of the entire coast, a pirate hideout (Smugglers Cove), and a hermit with his loyal dog. The diverse landscapes and the possibility of witnessing a natural geyser spectacle will keep you captivated throughout the steamboat ride. Keep your eyes peeled – there's a world of beauty to behold.

During the ride on one of the paddle steamers at Thunder Mesa Riverboat Landing, you will also pass the spooky haunted house, Phantom Manor.
In the past, you might have encountered one of the River Rogue Keelboats on your journey across the rivers of the Wild West. However, these are no longer in use, just as the Indian Canoes that used to sail here are no longer in use. Only occasionally do daring cast members sail across the waters around Big Thunder Mountain.

This leisurely, elegantly designed boat tour offers a serene escape from the park's lively atmosphere. As you journey behind the island, you'll find yourself immersed in the tranquillity of a real river cruise. It's the perfect opportunity to rest your feet, especially if you're lucky enough to secure a seat in the cabin or at the stern on the lower deck.

Tips for travelling by riverboat

  • Step aboard for a journey that transforms into a uniquely romantic and unforgettable experience under the night sky. This exclusive nighttime trip is sure to make you feel privileged and special. As the boat is very large, waiting times are usually kept within reasonable limits.
  • The waiting area is divided into two sections, but both are used only when there is a vast crowd. You should only queue if you can get a place in the first waiting area; otherwise, the wait will be pretty long.
  • One of the unique features of our boat trip is the opportunity for children to take the helm of the steamboat. This exceptional experience, when granted by the captain, is sure to excite and engage young adventurers.
  • Special attention should be paid to small children here.
  • Currently, only the Molly Brown is operating on the Rivers of the Far West. The Mark Twain is docked and awaiting repairs. However, there is little hope that this will actually happen.
