With the blossoming of the Wild West town of Thunder Mesa and its growing population, the call for a merchant offering everyday necessities grew louder and louder. Clothing and household items were also in increasing demand.
Thus, under the protection of the fort in the centre of the town at the intersection of Thunder Mesa Road and Lucky Nugget Lane, the Thunder Mesa Mercantile Building was constructed.
The building was constructed in no time at all from heavy wooden planks to withstand the region's harsh weather and provide sufficient protection in the event of a possible Indian attack.
Over time, the department store broadened its shelves, tailoring its wares to suit the ever-changing needs of Thunder Mesa’s colourful residents.
Today, the Thunder Mesa Mercantile Building is home to three unique shops, each designed with a particular group of customers in mind.
Bonanza Outfitters
Step inside and discover everything you need to dress like a true cowboy. Locals flock here for their attire, whether they fancy timeless Western looks or a dash of Disney flair. There’s a style for every taste.
Now, the front of the shop also sells a variety of Disney items. You can find soft toys, mugs, and writing utensils. Perhaps you are still looking for the perfect souvenir.
Eureka Mining Supplies and Assay Office
The classic shop for Thunder Mesa miners, which is often overlooked because it is quite small and located between the other two shops. As there is no clear demarcation between it and the other shops in the Thunder Mesa Mercantile Building, Eureka Mining Supplies and Assay Office are often mistaken for an additional checkout for the department store. But if you take a closer look, you'll quickly spot the scales on which the gold miners had their nuggets weighed. Be careful if one of these fellows enters the shop and feels cheated after weighing.
By now, you’ll want to have your stash of sweets, crisps, or perhaps a shiny new mug and a handful of Disney souvenirs ready.
Tobias Norton & Sons - Frontier Traders
Trappers and traders drift in and out, eager to turn prized furs into hard-earned cash. The shop’s walls display hunting trophies and pelts, proof of their triumphs across the prairie.
Inside, you’ll find crockery, cups, sweets, and a trove of Disney trinkets. Shelves brim with plastic snakes, curious critters, and a colourful array of T-shirts. The name Tobias Norton tips its hat to the Army Major from Disney’s Davy Crockett tales.
