Emporium
A classic department store like in grandmother's day – shopping as an exciting experience
The Emporium, a grand department store located on Main Street, has been an integral part of the city's fabric since 1892, as indicated by the highly polished sign on its entrance door. It's a part of a global trend of magnificent department stores, each one more impressive than the last. The Emporium, with its large, remarkable glass dome and elegant design, is a testament to this trend. It's a store that has stood the test of time, offering an unadulterated shopping experience.
Large murals point to another branch of the Emporium in Florida and the flagship store in California.
Here, in the immediate vicinity of City Hall, The Emporium offers a wide range of products for all your essential shopping needs. From clothing and toys to pins, mugs, accessories, and a wide range of other items, you'll find a diverse selection that is sure to pique your interest.
As is usual in a department store, you can enter the Emporium through various entrances that lead directly to a specific department, such as the soft toys or pins section. Shopping baskets are available at the entrance area and at the cash registers, allowing you to conveniently transport all your purchases. This makes shopping at the Emporium even more fun.
Incidentally, the technology in this department store is state-of-the-art. There is a rail-based cash register system that connects the cash registers in the individual departments to a back room where the safe is located. The staff at the cash registers place the money that customers pay for their purchases in a small basket, which is then transported to the back room via the rail system. There, an employee deposits the money into the safe and returns the corresponding change to the checkout, where it is handed over to the customer. (OK, this system is no longer used today; you can conveniently pay by credit card, but it's still a nice idea, isn't it?!)
