Hintergrundinformationen zum Shop Disney and Co. in der Main Street

The Imagineers, in a departure from the typical Main Street shops, drew inspiration from two Disney films to create a unique design for the Disney & Co. shop.
They used 'So Dear to my Heart' and 'Summer Magic' as templates.

The film 'So Dear to my Heart' was released in 1948. It is about a little boy who raises a lamb that wins a prize at the Pike Country Fair. This story is based on the book 'Danny, the Black Sheep' by Sterling North.
'Summer Magic' is a 1963 Disney feature film based on the book 'Mother Carey's Chicken' by children's author Kate Douglas Wiggin. The film revolves around a family that relocates to a rural town.

The theme of 'country fair' runs through the entire design of the Disney & Co. shop.
In addition, there are design elements inspired by the US flag, an allusion to the patriotism that emerged at the turn of the century, which was particularly evident at festivals and events in small towns.

For the part of the shop that resembles a classic horse carousel, the Imagineers drew inspiration from the carousels of the Philadelphia Toboggan Company (PTC). PTC is the oldest roller coaster manufacturer still in existence today, having been founded in 1904 and known in its early years for its beautifully designed horse carousels. Incidentally, one of these carousels, dating back to 1917, holds a very special value for all Disney fans, as it now stands in Fantasyland at Disney World in Florida under the name 'Prince Charmin Regal Carousel'.

In the early years of Disneyland Park, the organ, located behind the central ticket counter, played melodies that also accompanied the rides of a classic carousel, adding a touch of nostalgia and history to the park.
