Right at the beginning of Main Street, U.S.A., just before you enter Discovery Arcade, you found a small shop on the right-hand side of the street. If you looked closely, you couldn't miss the sign saying Ribbons & Bows Hat Shop on the façade of the building. This was a reminder of the early days of this shop, which later transformed into the Bixby Babies store, and eventually evolved into a Christmas shop.
In the early years of Disneyland Park, one of the two rooms in this shop was actually a hat shop. Here, you could buy classic headwear as well as ties and socks, the kind of products you would find in a well-stocked men's outfitter.
At the back of the shop, a small workshop housed old sewing machines. Here, you could add a personal touch to your hat by having your name embroidered, a unique service that made the shop stand out.
In the meantime, baby items were offered in the sales room. From clothing to stuffed animals to layettes, the successor to the Ribbons & Bows Hat Shop offered everything the smallest citizens of the world could need. Christmas items were provided in the second room of the shop on Main Street, U.S.A. Here, you could stock up on Disney-themed Christmas tree decorations, from figurines to nutcrackers to Christmas tree baubles – everything you needed to transform your home into a little Disney-style Christmas wonderland.
These Christmas items became so popular that the enterprising shop owners eventually changed their concept again. The sign saying 'Bixby Babies' still hung on the door, but inside the shop, you hardly found anything for toddlers or babies. Here, it was all about Christmas. Jewellery, decorations and much more to beautify your home during the festive season.
