Disney Nature Resorts at Disneyland Paris

a long and stony road

Disneyland Paris opened on April 12, 1992, at that time under the name of Euro Disney Resort. But did you know that it was possible to spend the night on site before the official opening of the resort? Camp Davy Crockett opened in September 1991 and welcomed guests, and on February 2, 1992 the Crockett's Tavern was opened, so guests no longer had to prepare their own meals. The primary purpose of Camp Davy Crockett was to create homes for the first employees of Disneyland Paris.
The bungalows in the middle of nature were inspired by the model of Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground in Walt Disney World.
The Davy Crockett Ranch officially opened on April 12, 1992.

Another project that would have suited the Disney Nature Resorts was the Lava Lagoon water park, which was scheduled to open in 1995. It should be a water park, in the center of it which there should be an artificial volcano with various slides. The planning for this water park was well advanced on paper. But as is often the case, it turns out differently than expected. The plans for Lava Lagoon disappeared and a water park was out of the question.

In 2003 the hope for a water park was revived, because this year the Villages Nature Paris project was launched. It wasn't until 2007 that it became more concrete and Disney and Pierre & Vacances - Center Parcs entered into a cooperation to establish Villages Nature. Joe Rohde from Walt Disney Imagineering was involved in the design, and French landscape architect Thierry Huau was also involved in the project, together with Jean de Gastines. The opening of this new holiday park took place on September 1, 2017. On October 9, 2018, the Disney Nature Resorts brand was officially launched, which includes the two holiday resorts Disney's Davy Crockett Ranch and Villages Nature Paris.
