Disneyland Railroad - Main Street Station

All aboard! Mind the gap! Welcome aboard the Disneyland Railroad. Enjoy the ride around Disneyland Park.

The Disneyland Railroad, a unique feature of the park, offers visitors a scenic journey around the park, showcasing its diverse attractions and providing a convenient mode of transportation.
It offers a unique experience as it passes through the Grand Canyon Diorama, a breathtaking visual treat, and makes stops at the stations in Frontierland, Fantasyland and Discoveryland on its round trip.
The Main Street Station building, a historical landmark, is the first structure that greets every Disneyland visitor. It serves as a symbolic gateway, marking the transition from the ordinary world to the enchanting realm of Disney.

The idea of incorporating a railway came from Walt Disney himself, who had always been a big fan of trains and had even built a huge model railway in his own garden, which he could ride around on himself. Walt Disney attached great importance to detail in this model railway; for example, he had an authentic replica of the station building in his hometown of Marceline built. His passion for trains and railways may also be attributed to his first job, selling magazines and sweets on trains.
There is even a window on Main Street U.S.A. at Disneyland Paris, which alludes to Walt's fondness for railways.

The tour around the park provides an excellent opportunity to get an overview of the magical kingdom.

This train is an interesting attraction, especially for small children, adults and seniors, who can simply relax and enjoy a leisurely ride. The main advantage is that you can ride the train for as long as you like, providing a perfect opportunity to unwind and take in the park's beauty.

The stations of the Disneyland Railroad

Main Street Station
This is essentially the main station at Disneyland Paris.
The train station on Main Street is beautifully designed with artefacts and posters from the pioneering days of American railways.
Unfortunately, it is often crowded.

Frontierland Depot
This is the Disneyland Railroad stop in Frontierland, very close to the Frontierland Theatre, where the amazing Lion King - Rhythms of the Pride Lands show is peformed.
It is usually not quite as busy here.

Fantasyland Station
The loop around Disneyland Park is half complete at Fantasyland Station. When your feet get tired, hop on here and ride back to Main Street Station.

Discoveryland Station
Somewhat hidden behind the Star Tours and Mickey's PhilharMagic attractions, you will find the station in Discoveryland.

The four steam trains of the Disneyland Railroad

The trains that run around Disneyland Paris every day have been designed with great care. To make them as authentic as possible, Disney Imagineers spent considerable time at the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village in Michigan, as well as the California Railroad Museum in Sacramento.

There are four different trains at Disneyland:

The first train is called George Washington. It is designed in red, blue and white, reminiscent of the colours of the US flag. The individual carriages of the train all have their own names, which are related to the career of George Washington, the first president of the United States: Mount Vernon, Boston, Philadelphia, Yorktown and Valley Forge.

The second train is called C.K. Holliday. Holliday was the founder of the Santa Fe Railroad. However, this train does not run in the south-west of the USA, but in the north-west, which is why the names of the individual carriages are reminiscent of popular destinations on the East Coast: Coney Island, Atlantic City, Chesapeake, Long Island, and Niagara Falls.

The third train is called W.F. Cody, in memory of Buffalo Bill, whose real name was W.F. Cody. The names of the individual carriages on this train also refer to the Wild West: Silverton, Durango, Denver, Wichita and Cheyenne.

The fourth train, called Eureka, began operating a few months after the opening of Disneyland Paris, as the previous capacity was insufficient. Eureka is said to have been the exclamation used by Californian miners when they struck gold. That is why all the carriages on this train are named after cities in California: San Francisco, Los Angeles, Monterey, San Diego and Sacramento.

Tips for the Railroad
  • If possible, avoid using Main Street Station to board the Railroad, as long queues often form here, especially in the morning. Waiting times are usually much shorter at the other stations, particularly in Frontierland.
  • At night, a ride around the park is an exceptional experience.
  • From this train station, you have a good view of Town Square and the entire Main Street all the way to Sleeping Beauty Castle. Simply climb the stairs and take a moment to enjoy the view.
Interesting facts about the railway and Main Street Station
  • Around the Main Street Station building, you will find numerous elements bearing the letters EDRR. This combination of letters stands for Euro Disneyland Railroad. This was the original name for the steam trains. Later, when the entire resort was renamed, the railway was also renamed and is now called Disneyland Paris Railroad. However, the initials EDRR were not removed and continue to bear witness to the original name.
  • The stairs to Main Street Station and the metal struts in the station are reminiscent of the elevated railway stations in New York. These stations, known for their grandeur and architectural beauty, inspired the Disney Imagineers when designing the park in Paris. The design elements were carefully selected to evoke a sense of nostalgia and grandeur, enhancing the overall experience of the park.
  • Here's a fascinating tidbit for you: some of the serial numbers on the trains correspond to the birth dates of the Imagineers who were instrumental in designing the Disneyland Paris Railroad. This unique touch adds a personal connection to the park's history and the creative minds behind it.
  • The colourful stained glass windows in Main Street Station each represent one of the lands in Disneyland Park.
